And while we’re really (really) proud of that—and equally proud of our global reach and impact—there’s an extra-special place in our GA heart for NYC.

Born in NYC, rooted in NYC
Back in early 2011, General Assembly was born as a scrappy startup in Midtown Manhattan.
In our infancy, we focused on providing an innovative co-working space to New Yorkers of all kinds—tech pros, creatives, and more. But in our initial ventures, we quickly saw firsthand the growing tech skills gaps (even within the tech industry and with tech professionals) and knew we could step in to help. So we pivoted business strategies and rapidly evolved from a scrappy co-working startup to a scrappy, nontraditional tech training provider.
Like the core of what makes New York City so great, we went against the grain. We thought differently. Tech training to make anyone job-ready in just 12 weeks? Many said it was impossible. We didn’t think so. We built our flagship campus in the Flatiron District and never looked back.
Now it’s 2025. And we’ve evolved again. Into a center of excellence in training people from all backgrounds to upgrade their practical knowledge of tech skills now required in every company and in any role.
But we’re still a scrappy, NYC-based startup at heart. And we still offer a one-of-a-kind learning experience in person on our New York campus—still located in Flatiron.
