After taking time out of the workforce to be with her family, Vithya was ready to return to work. Having been away for some time, she knew she needed a competitive edge—and that tech would provide it. “I witnessed a significant digitization project in my previous job,” she recalls. “That really opened my eyes to the importance of technology.”
Knowing she needed cutting-edge tech skills was one thing—but acquiring them was another. As she researched potential training avenues, Vithya decided to prioritize two factors above all else: practical skill building and a supportive community. This led her to General Assembly, where she enrolled in our Software Engineering Bootcamp. “The program provided exactly what I needed and it allowed me to pivot into a tech career successfully.”
As part of the course, Vithya learned the latest technologies (including deep-dives into AI) from industry pros, in a hands-on environment. This practical approach not only led Vithya to a new role, but one she finds rewarding and meaningful. “Today I put the real skills I learned at GA to use as a software engineer in the public sector,” she says. “The coding skills I learned allowed me to bring value to the end users. I look forward to seeing the software being deployed in the near future.”
Like all Champions of GA, Vithya didn’t go it alone—she had plenty of support from her team at General Assembly. “My team included my GA instructor, Desmond, my career adviser, Samantha, and the wonderful recruitment team who helped me land my current role,” she says.
“General Assembly was a pivotal step in my career path. The bootcamp provided me with a structured environment where I could gain the technical skills needed for a successful transition into software engineering.”
