It is a common misconception that investing in a career change is an expensive choice. As a result, many people may be afraid to make the move even when they have a burning desire to transition into a more fulfilling career.

Career change for Singaporeans could be a daunting prospect, especially for those wishing to enter the ever-changing and competitive tech space. However, once you decide to take that step, you’ll find that it’s completely possible.

In its movement towards becoming a smart nation, Singapore is seeing a huge increase in demand for tech talent in areas like cybersecurity, data science and software development. It is reported that there has been a 30.5% job ad increase in the computer and IT fields in Singapore and that 50% of workers will need reskilling by 2050. As such, General Assembly strives to offer financial support for our Singaporean students through subsidies under Infocomm Media Development Authority’s TIPP.

So, if your goal is to seek new career opportunities, transition into a tech role or secure a position at a tech company in Singapore, then you have come to the right place.

Read on to learn more about the subsidy so you can kickstart your career change today.

Equipping Singaporeans with Digital Skills for Careers in Tech

With the increasing demand for tech employees, IMDA plays a vital role in ensuring that the Singaporean workforce is equipped with the most relevant and up-to-date digital skills. To meet this demand, IMDA has prioritized the provision of assistance in the upskilling and reskilling of Singaporeans and Permanent Residents (PRs).

If you are seeking a meaningful career in tech, then you should definitely leverage the opportunities that TIPP has to offer.

What is the TIPP subsidy and what are the benefits?

The TIPP subsidy is geared towards supporting non-tech professionals looking to pursue a tech career.

TIPP hopes to bring a holistic learning experience for individuals. Besides classroom learning, training courses under the TIPP offer the following benefits:

  • Mentorship & coaching programmes
  • Participation in hands-on projects
  • Creation of an impressive tech portfolio
  • Network of industry experts from respective tech fields such as web development, software and app development, user experience and data analytics

General Assembly’s courses under the TIPP subsidy

In alignment with IMDA’s vision, General Assembly strives to offer affordable and high-quality training for Singaporeans. Our Bootcamps for Software Engineering, Data Analytics, and UX Design are all covered under the TIPP.

These Bootcamps are built and taught by industry experts with a wealth of real world experience. In addition, students at GA have access to a career coach who will offer guidance and advice throughout their  journey at GA and beyond – ensuring that students have all the support they need to secure their dream roles in tech upon graduation.

Important note: The subsidies are applicable only for Singaporeans or Permanent Residents (PRs) and are subject to availability of seats.. To determine your eligibility towards enrolment and subsidy requirements, all applicants are required to go through a pre-admission screening and interview process.
