As we celebrate Mother's Day this year, let's shine a spotlight on some of the trailblazers helping moms make waves across tech disciplines.

Let’s face it — Mother’s Day should be every day. But officially, every second Sunday in May, we have the special day to honor and celebrate the incredible women who’ve shaped our lives and inspired us to reach for the stars. 

In the world of technology, there are countless moms not only balancing the demands of motherhood, but also making significant contributions to fields like software engineering, data analytics, data science, and user experience design. As we celebrate Mother’s Day this year, let’s shine a spotlight on some of the trailblazers helping moms make waves across tech disciplines.

Making Waves in Software Engineering

Tracy Chou 

Tracy Chou is a software engineer and diversity advocate known for her work in promoting gender diversity in the tech industry. She’s been a vocal advocate for parental leave policies and support systems that enable women to thrive in tech careers while balancing family responsibilities.

Sarah Allen 

Sarah Allen is a software engineer and entrepreneur who co-founded Blazing Cloud, a software development consultancy. She’s been a trailblazer in the tech industry, leading by example and inspiring other moms to pursue careers in software engineering.

Making Waves in Data Analytics

Kimberly Bryant 

Kimberly Bryant is the founder of Black Girls CODE, a nonprofit organization that aims to teach coding, data and tech skills to young girls of color. As a mom, Kimberly has been a driving force behind the movement to increase diversity and representation in the tech industry, empowering the next generation of tech leaders.

Mona Chalabi 

Mona Chalabi is a data journalist and illustrator known for her unique approach to visualizing data. She’s used her platform to raise awareness about important social issues and advocate for data-driven solutions to complex problems — including those of motherhood.

Making Waves in Data Science

Claudia Perlich

Claudia Perlich is an accomplished data scientist and research director. As a mom, Claudia has been at the forefront of cutting-edge research in data science, applying her expertise to develop innovative solutions to real-world challenges.

Lisa Lewin

Lisa Lewin is a data-driven strategist and operating executive with nearly three decades of experience leading and advising private, public, and nonprofit sectors. She also served as CEO of General Assembly. As a mom and tech professional, she’s been a driving force behind the democratization of education, making it accessible to people around the world.

Irene Au 

Irene Au is a user experience designer and former design lead at tech giants like Google. When she’s not busy being a mom, she’s been instrumental in shaping the way we interact with technology, advocating for user-centric design principles that prioritize usability and accessibility.

Jane Fulton Suri 

Jane Fulton Suri is a design thinker and author known for her work in human-centered design. She’s been a pioneer in the field of UX design, championing empathy-driven approaches to product development that prioritize the needs and experiences of users.

As we celebrate Mother’s Day 2024, let’s take a moment to recognize and honor all the incredible moms making a difference in the world of technology.
